Most states offer Children's Health Insurance that is free or subsidized (lower rates). Medical assistance has been funded by the States and Federal Government under Title XXI of the Social Security Act. There are even non-profits that help sometimes within each state. Alabama

AllKids - Alabama's Children's Health Insurance Program (free for certain incomes, and reduced or subsidized premiums for higher incomes)

Alaska

Denali KidCare - Denali KidCare is a State of Alaska program designed to ensure that children can have the health insurance they need.

Arizona

KidsCare - KidsCare is healthcare insurance made available by the State of Arizona

Arkansas

ARkids - ARKids is healthcare insurance made available by the State of Arkansas and provides health coverage to over 70,000 children.

California

Colorado

Florida  

Florida KidCare - Florida KidCare is Florida's state children's health insurance program for uninsured children under age 19.

Georgia

PeachCare - Georgia's PeachCare provides low cost insurance for Georgia's uninsured children.

Hawaii

Hawaii Covering Kids -The State of Hawaii low-cost children's health insurance funded by AlohaCare, Hawaii Community Foundation, Hawaii State Department of Human Services, HMSA Foundation, and NFL Pro Bowl Charities.

Idaho

Idaho provides health insurance for children in two ways.

1) Health Insurance Premium Assistance - this includes the Children's Access Card and Access to Health Insurance (AHI)

2) Medicaid - These are publicly funded, direct coverage plans for qualifying children and adults.

Illinois

AllKids -The All Kids program offers Illinois’ uninsured children comprehensive health care that includes doctor’s visits, hospital stays, prescription drugs, vision care, dental care and medical devices like eyeglasses and asthma inhalers.

Indiana

Hoosier Healthwise - Indiana's Children Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) is part of Hoosier Health Wise which provides health insurance to Indiana Children, Pregnant Woman and low income families.

Iowa

Hawk-i -Iowa's Children Health Insurance Plan that provides healthcare for Iowa Children in families with limited incomes.

Kansas

HealthWave - Kansas Children's Health Insurance Plan called Healthwave that was created for uninsured children, ages 0-9, living in households below poverty line or below 200% of poverty level set by the Federal Government.

Kentucky

Kentucky's CHIP (KCHIP) - KCHIP or Kentucky's Children's Health Insurance Plan provides health insurance coverage for low income, uninsured children in Kentucky.

Louisiana

Louisiana's CHIP (LaCHIP) - LaCHIP or Louisiana's Children's Health Insurance Plan provides health insurance coverage for low income, uninsured children in Louisiana.

Maine

Maine's (SCHIP) - SCHIP or Maine's State Children's Health Insurance Program provides health insurance coverage for low income, uninsured children in Maine.

Maryland

Maryland's Children's Health Program (MCHP)- MCHP or Maryland's Children Health Program provides health insurance coverage for low income, uninsured children in Maryland between 0-19.

Children's Medical Security Plan - CMSP is program that provides certain uninsured children and adolescents with primary and preventive medical and dental insurance.

Michigan

MIChild - MIChild is the state of Michigan's health insurance program uninsured children of working families.

Minnesota

Minnesota's SCHIP - Minnesota's State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP)

Mississippi

Mississippi's CHIP- Mississippi's (Children's Health Insurance Plan) is designed to provide health care insurance for children in families without health insurance or with inadequate health insurance. It does not replace Medicaid.

Missouri

MO HealthNet For Kids -Through the MO HealthNet for Kids program, children receive full, comprehensive coverage including primary, acute and preventative care, hospital care, dental and vision care as well as prescription coverage.

Montana

Montana's CHIP - Montana's State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides health insurance to Montana children up to age 19 and qualify based on size of family and income.

Nebraska

Kids Connection - Kids Connection is health care coverage for qualified children developed by the State of Nebraska. It includes both the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and the Nebraska Medical Assistance Program (also known as Medicaid). 

Nevada

Nevada Check Up - Nevada's State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides low-cost, comprehensive health care coverage to low income, uninsured children who are not covered by private insurance or Medicaid.

New Hampshire

Healthy Kids - New Hampshire Healthy Kids (NHHK) is a non-profit organization providing access to low-cost and free health coverage options for New Hampshire’s uninsured children and teens. NHHK works in partnership with the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services.

New Jersey

NJ FamilyCare - NJ FamilyCare is not a welfare program, but rather the State of New Jersey's way of providing affordable health coverage for kids and certain low-income parents. You can qualify for low cost or no cost health insurance.

New Mexico

New Meiosis  - New Mexico's Children's Health Insurance is a no cost or low cost health coverage for children under 19 years old.

New York

New York Child Health Plus - New York State has a health insurance plan for kids, called Child Health Plus. Depending on your family's income, your child may be eligible to join either Children's Medicaid or Child Health Plus.

North Carolina

North Carolina Health Choice for Children (NCHC) - NCHC is a free or reduced price comprehensive health care program for children.  If your family makes too much money to qualify for Medicaid but too little to afford rising health insurance premiums, your child(ren) may qualify for NCHC.

North Dakota

North Dakota's (CHIP) or Health Steps Program - North Dakota's free or reduced price comprehensive health care program for children.

Ohio

Ohio's Healthy Start Healthy Families - Oklahoma's State Health Insurance covers adults and children through Medicaid depending eligibility. The application process is here.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma's Children's Health Insurance Program or CHIP - Oklahoma's State Health Insurance covers adults, children and seniors depending on eligibility requirements. To find those visit the link.

Oregon

CHIP - Oregon's Children's Health Insurance Program falls under the Oregon Health Plan and the web site states, The Oregon Health Plan (OHP) offers health care to its members at little or no cost."

Pennsylvania

CHIP - Pennsylvania's Children's Health Insurance Program (free for certain incomes, and reduced or subsidized premiums for higher incomes)

Rhode Island

Rhode Island Medical Assistance Program - State Medicaid for Rhode Island children, parents, and pregnant woman. The RI Department of Human Services web site states eligibility as, "Children, Parents, and Pregnant women (through RIte Care)" and "Children with special needs (through Medical Assistance)."

South Carolina

The Partners for Health Children -South Carolina's CHIP or Children's Health Insurance Program. The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services web site states, "The Partners for Healthy Children program was authorized under Title XXI of the Social Security Act. This program provides Medicaid coverage for children who live in families with income at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level."

South Dakota

South Dakota's CHIP - Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). South Dakota's Chip Web site states "CHIP provides health insurance coverage to uninsured children whose family income is up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level (monthly income of $3,534 for a family of four). Children who already have private health insurance may also be eligible for CHIP paying deductibles, co-payments and other medical services not covered by their private policy."

Tennessee

CoverKids - CoverKids. The Tennessee CoverKids web site explains CoverKids as, "CoverKids provides comprehensive health coverage for children 18 and under and maternity coverage for pregnant women."

Texas

CHIP - Children's Medicaid for Texans. The Texas website states, "Texas families with uninsured children may be eligible for health insurance through Children’s Medicaid and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program). Both programs provide a wide range of benefits, including regular check-ups and dental care to keep kids healthy."

Utah

CHIP - Utah's Children's Health Insurance Program (free for certain incomes, and reduced or subsidized premiums for higher incomes).

Vermont

Dr. Dynasaur -This is Vermont's state health insurance for children up to 18 and pregnant woman. Green Mountain Care is for those families and individuals who are have not insurance due to financial strain. The web site states "Broad income guidelines are designed to cover as many families as possible - currently a family of four can make up to $60,156 per year and still be eligible. You may qualify even if you have other health insurance. Even if you are 18 to 21 years old, you may be eligible for low cost or free health insurance."

Virginia

FAMIS -Or Family Access to Medical Insurance Security. The web site states "FAMIS is Virginia's program that helps families provide health insurance to their children. Health insurance is important to make sure that kids are able to get all the help they need to grow up healthy."

Washington

Washington State SCHIP -Washington State's Children's Health Insurance Program. The web site states "Over 100,000 children and teenagers in Washington State don't have health insurance.  Many families can get free or low-cost health insurance for their kids.   A family of 4 with income up to $4,417 a month may be eligible.  Use this link for a complete list of income standards."

West Virginia

WVCHIP -West Virginia's Children's Health Insurance. The web site states "The West Virginia Children’s Health Insurance Program (WVCHIP) is a low cost health care plan for children and teenagers of working families."

Wisconsin

BadgerCare PLUS -BadgerCare Plus is insurance for children up to 19 and even pregnant woman in need. The web site states: "BadgerCare Plus is for all kids, regardless of income. BadgerCare Plus is about more than just kids. It also offers access to comprehensive, affordable health care to many families and pregnant women in Wisconsin."

Wyoming

Kid Care CHIP - KidCare Chip's main web site states "Kid Care CHIP is a State of Wyoming program designed to ensure that children and teens of both working and non-working families can have the health insurance they need."
